Alberta Parks has closed all access to the wildlife corridor (Killer Bees, Backdoor, Ziggy’s, Nectar Noodle and a section of The Albertan) to give bears some space and allow bear movement through the Canmore Nordic Centre. A cyclist was charged by a bear on July 21st, and all cyclists should be doubling down on bear awareness while the berry crop is at its peak in the valley.
A bear closure is in place including the area and trails south and west of the Canmore Nordic Centre, including Grassi Lakes trails and climbing area, and areas near Quarry Lake. The Quarry Lake day use area and dog off leash dog areas remain open.
Orienteering is currently not recommended at the Canmore Nordic Centre during this unusually high berry season.
All Frisbee Golf players are advised to travel in groups of 4 or more.
Carry bear spray, slow down, make noise, know that grizzlies and black bears are fully focused on buffalo berry and easy to startle. Stay safe, and keep the bears safe! Dogs MUST be on leash at all times.
