Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation (TPR) maintains Reserve.AlbertaParks.ca. The purpose of this web-enabled application is to provide centralized campground reservation and registration services to the public to facilitate better enjoyment of Alberta for Albertans.

TPR and its agents are committed to providing our Reserve.AlbertaParks.ca website and Contact Centre visitors with the information and services they are seeking in a manner that respects their privacy.

This page summarizes how the Reserve.AlbertaParks.ca website will be managed in accordance with the rules established in the Alberta Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act.

Making a Reservation

The Reserve.AlbertaParks.ca website provides individuals with the opportunity to voluntarily provide limited amounts of personal information to create and manage an on-line account and to make campsite reservations.

Whenever personal information is collected, you will be provided with a privacy notification statement.  You are encouraged to read the notification carefully prior to submitting your personal information.

To establish an on-line account, you will be asked to provide your first and last name, the country you live in and postal or zip code, if applicable, your email address and a password to secure access to your information on the website.

In order to facilitate registration at the campground booth, you may also provide your vehicle license plate number and information concerning any other campers who may occupy the sites you are reserving. When providing information about other campers please ensure that you have their approval to do so.

If you make your reservation over the telephone, you will be asked to provide your telephone number rather than your email address.  TPR has taken every precaution to safeguard the personal information you provide to us and ensure that it is used appropriately.

The information you provide on the system, over the telephone or to campground staff will be used to reserve a campsite, fulfill your service needs and evaluate our parks program.

It is collected by TPR under the authority of section 33(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act and is protected by the privacy provisions of that Act.  If you have any questions about the information collection, please ask the person you are speaking to or call 1-866-427-3582 .

Cookies

A cookie is a small file that is placed in the temporary internet files area of your hard drive while you are visiting a website.  Reserve.AlbertaParks.ca uses temporary session-based cookies whenever you visit our site.

These cookies are automatically deleted by your computer and our servers within an hour after your visit.  If you have created an on-line account, we also use a persistent cookie to store your email address (but not your password) to make it easier for you to login on a return visit.

Depending on your web browser version or setting, you may be prompted to accept a persistent cookie.  If you accept the cookie, you will experience full website functionality and the cookie will be automatically deleted from your computer in 30 days, or sooner if you manually delete it.  If you refuse the cookie, you will still have access to the campground information on the site but will not be able to create an account or make campsite reservations.

If you have trouble logging in, make sure your browser is set to accept cookies by going to Tools, Internet Options, Privacy and setting the bar to medium for Internet Explorer or by going to Tools, Options, Privacy and ensuring the checkbox 'Accept cookies from site' is checked for Firefox. JavaScript will also need to be enabled.

Automatic Collection of Non-identifiable Information

When you visit the website, we will automatically collect a limited amount of non-identifiable information about your computer (e.g. the type and version of your web browser, your screen size and the IP address your computer is using to receive information) and about your visit.

This information enables TPR to assess its information and services and evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the website.  The collected information includes:

• the date and time the site was accessed,
• the page from which the visitor arrived,
• traffic patterns and pages visited on the site, and
• the name and size of any requested files.

This information indicates a person's activity on the site, but doesn't reveal their identity.

Reserve.AlbertaParks.ca is supported by the following browsers:  Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7 or later, or Firefox version 2 or later.  Older browsers may not support the security measures implemented by TPR in the system.

Security

For site security purposes and to ensure the service remains available to all users, the website and the government computer system use software to monitor or detect unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or damage the provided service. No attempt is made to identify users or their usage patterns except for authorized law enforcement investigations.

If you create an on-line account, you are responsible for selecting, securing and changing your password to protect the information in your account.
