Conducting Research

Research & Collection Activities in Alberta's Parks

Alberta's parks provide excellent locations for scientific and research activities given their value as natural laboratories with long-term protection. We encourage research where it can be conducted with minimal risk to the environment and minimal disturbance to visitors.

  • A research and collection permit must be obtained prior to the start of any research and collection activities that occur on lands managed by Parks Division.
  • A single permit may be issued to authorize research or collection at more than one location IF conducted by the same individual or research group.
  • There are no fees associated with applying for or obtaining a research and collection permit.
